Client check-in questions that work
A short weekly check-in tells you more than a long monthly one. Here is what to ask and how to reply.
A weekly check-in template
- How many planned sessions did you complete this week?
- What went best this week?
- What was hardest?
- How did your energy and sleep feel, from 1 to 5?
- How did nutrition go compared with your target, from 1 to 5?
- Is anything coming up next week that affects training?
- What do you need from me?
Keep it short
Seven questions take a client three minutes. Long forms get skipped, and the clients who skip them are often the ones you most need to hear from.
How to reply
- Mention one specific win.
- Answer the question they asked.
- Give one clear action for next week.
Three sentences is often enough. Clients value being seen more than a long reply.
Make it a routine
Send check-ins on the same day each week and reply within a set window. In TrainersBook you can schedule recurring check-ins and see who has stopped logging.
Common questions
How often should personal trainers check in with clients?
Weekly works for most online clients. In-person clients may only need a short message between sessions.
What if a client stops answering?
Send one short, friendly message that makes replying easy, such as a yes or no question.
