How to keep personal training clients
Clients rarely leave suddenly. They drift. If you spot it early, a short conversation can often turn it around.
The early signs
- Fewer logged sessions than planned.
- Slower replies, or none.
- Rescheduling more often.
- No progress for several weeks.
- Goals that no longer seem to matter to them.
What to do
Act in the first week
Do not wait for the monthly review. A short, personal message is enough: "I noticed last week was tough. What would make this week easier?"
Make the plan smaller
When life gets busy, two sessions done beats four skipped. Cutting the plan for a few weeks keeps the habit alive.
Show them how far they have come
Pull up the numbers from when they started. A progress chart is often more motivating than a pep talk.
Reset the goal
Goals change. Ask what they want now, and agree on something for the next eight weeks.
Build it into your week
Set aside time each week to go through your client list and ask who you have not heard from. The Falling Behind filter in TrainersBook does this for you, and shows clients who may need a message.
Common questions
Why do personal training clients quit?
Common reasons are cost, lack of visible progress, changed schedules and feeling unnoticed. Regular contact and visible progress help with several of these.
How can I tell who is about to leave?
Watch for a drop in logged sessions and slower replies.
